Albemarle County Land Conservation Earns an A

Albemarle County land conservation earns an A.  What comes to mind first when you think about Albemarle County, Virginia.  You would probably sayAlbemarle scene something like beautiful homes set amid a scenic rural landscape.  One of the difficulties that we face is how to have growth without losing the natural beauty of a country landscape.  It looks like Albemarle County is doing a good job of answering this challenge.

I just read in the January issue of Keswick Life magazine that 16% of Albemarle County and over 41% of the Southwest Mountains Historic District are now protected by conservation easements.  This translates to over $75,000 acres in Albemarle County as a whole and 15,000 acres in the Southwest Mountains.

In Albemarle County private land conservation provides a way to achieve these goals while preserving natural habitats, water quality, farms and forests.  Kudos go out to these private landowners for putting their Albemarle County horse farms and country properties into conservation easement and helping to preserve Albemarle County's rural heritage and scenic beauty.
