What Do You Mean You Can't Tell Me Which Is The Best School?

What do you mean you can't tell me which is the best school?picture of a school house

Clients often email me with a request to find them a home in the best school district or to ask me what is the best high school in Albemarle County.  They are shocked when I disclose the fact that legally I can't give out that information.  I go on to explain that by aiming them to a particular school zone I could be perceived to be "steering".

By definition "steering is the illegal practice of channeling home seekers to particular areas, either to maintain the homogeneity of an area or to change the character of an area, which limits the choices of where they can live."  Steering is a practice that is prohibited by the Fair Housing laws.

We are fortunate that Charlottesville and Albemarle County have many excellent schools.  Often the choice of a school is very subjective.  Two children can have two very different experiences in the same school depending on what their particular needs are or by what teachers they end up having.  You can go to www.schoolmatters.com to perform a search of Charlottesville schools complete with each school's test scores.

When you decide which school is the best fit for your child, I can find homes to show you that meet your criteria in that school district.
