Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club March 2010 Agility Trial

The Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club hosted a successful March 2010 agility trial.

Te video below gives a taste of what these amazing dogs can do.  When you attend an agility trial one of the first things you will notice is how much fun the dogs are having.  The sport of agility is one more fun activity to enjoy with your dog.  Any breed can run in agility and competes over obstacles at a height for the size of your dog.

If you are a purebred dog lover moving to the Charlottesville area, the Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club may be a great choice of an organization for you to join.  CAKC always welcomes new members.

Surviving Snowmageddon

Charlottesville Virginia is into day two of Snowmageddon. snow, ice and zero visibility

Snow continues to fall with wind contributing to the deteriorated conditions.  There is over a foot of snow on the ground with some sleet and freezing rain thrown in.  Roads are treacherous, businesses are closed and much of the area is without power.

If you are able to access the internet, here are links to a couple of sites to keep you updated on the latest road and power conditions.

Charlottesville Holiday Heritage Parade

Charlottesville VA kicked off the downtown holiday season yesterday with the Charlottesville Holiday Heritage Parade.  This was a fun event which included golf cart floats from a variety of groups such as First Night, Sips, and the SPCA Rummage Sale among others.  Dog lovers were also well represented: Basset Hound Rescue had a large contingent as did the Bernese Mountain Dog Club and the Charlottesville Albemarle Kennel Club.  Children and adults alike along the parade route seemed to particularly enjoy the dogs.

CHarlottesville Virginia Celebrates July 4th

Residents in Charlottesville Virginia and the surrounding areas have a variety of choices for celebrating July 4th.   flag and fireworks

For most of us the 4th of July is a holiday spent with family and friends.  Parades, cookouts, fireworks are the usual activities.  When my children were growing up July 4th was a full day.  It started out with a drive to nearby Scottsville for their traditional parade.  We are talking about a real old fashioned parade with fire trucks, cars of local beauty queens, homemade floats, baton twirlers and a few horses.  The best part for the children was that most of the participants threw candy and bubblegum.  Then it was beck to Free Union for the local parade which everyone took place in.  The children were regulars in the kazoo band and one of my daughters even rode her pony one year.  Another summer they pulled their dog in a decorated wagon.  Of course more bubble gum and candy was involved.  The day usually ended on a blanket at the end of the Farmington Country Club golf course with family, friends and a picnic watching the fireworks overhead.

For those of you who are looking for an activity to start your own July 4 traditions here is a link to a list of Charlottesville and Central VA July 4 events.
