Charlottesville Virginia Horse Farms - Pasture Management

Charlottesville Virginia horse farms are some of the most beautiful horse properties in the United States.  Albemarle County which surrounds Charlottesville Virginia is an area of gently rolling fields set against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains.   This countryside is idealy suited for a Virginia horse farm.

If you own a Charlottesville horse farm it is important to know how to correctly manage your land. Charlottesville Virginia horse farm Some of the issues that it is necessary for a landowner to understand are the time of year that it is best to fertilize, when to put down lime,  should you drill seed and what are the best pasture grasses to seed with.  Another important issue is pasture rotation and how many horses are appropriate to have on your land.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension is a resource that the owner of a Charlottesville Virginia horse farm can utilize to learn about many of these issues.  In addition there will be a free educational seminar in March that an Albemarle farm owner can attend to learn more about pasture management.

Horse Pastures - From the Ground Up is an educational seminar for Charlottesville Virginia horse farm owners on March 3, 2009 from 8am-3pm, hosted by the Virginia Forage and Grassland Council and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.  The program will be held at the Elk's Lodge in Charlottesville Virginia and will cover a selection of forage and pasture issues.  For details and registration information you can go to the  Charlottesville Horse website.

Pasture management keeps our Charlottesville Virginia horse farms green and lush.  Don't miss the opportunity to learn the best ways to be a good steward of your land.

Charlottesville Virginia Horse Farms

Charlottesville  Virginia horse farms are located in Albemarle County horse country which has some of the most beautiful countryside in the United States.  The county is home to many horse farms ranging in size from several acres to several hundred acres.  There are several areas in the county which are known for their horse properties, and each has it's own character.

The Farmington Hunt Country lies to the west of Charlottesville and has a large selection of Charlottesville horse farms.  It centers around Garth Road and also the Free Union area.  The country is has gently rolling fields which are mostly cleared with a scattering of woods.  These farms are set against views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background.  This side of town has farms of varying sizes.  Often there are several farms adjoining each other offering plenty of land to ride across, with landowner's permission of course.  One of the factors that help make these Albemarle horse farms so special is the land stewardship and pasture management, contributing to the vistas of green fields.

The Farmington Hunt Club has kennels and a club house which are located in Free Union.  Farmington is a registered pack and hounds go out three days a week from October - March.

The Garth Road area is home to The Barracks, a large boarding stable which hosts a series of A horse shows in the winter.  In addition, several other farms in this area host outdoor horseshows in the spring and summer, or you can easily drive to horseshows all over the state almost every week of the year.  There are also several other barns to choose from if you wish to either board your horse or take lessons.

Below are several pictures illustrating the beautiful Albemarle County countryside.  As you can see this area is ideally suited for equestrian properties.  There are many different sizes and designs of Charlottesville horse barns to choose from.  If you and your horses are considering relocating to a Charlottesville Virginia horse farm, let my years of experience in the horse business and my knowledge of local farms and homes help you find the perfect Charlottesville horse property.  If you are selling a horse farm in Charlottesville and Central Virginia, it is important to choose a Realtor who understands horse properties and how to market them to appeal the the equestrian buyer.
