Are You and Olympian? What Can the Olympics Teach a REALTOR?

Like so much of the country, I have been glued to my tv set for the past week.

I haveolympic torch bearer marveled at the accomplishments of the athletes and have been reflecting on what it takes to become an Olympian.

What qualities made it possible for Michael Phelps to win an unprecedented number of medals?  Did the specially designed suit enable him to swim faster?  Or does the fact that he has exceptionally long arms give him an edge?  Or could it be something else?

One of the things that struck me is the fact that each athlete has a story.  So many had to overcome adversity, whether financial, personal or physical, just to get the chance to compete at the Olympics.  Many have arrived physically battered, with injuries, yet are courageously still competing.

It seems to me that the unifying factor that all these athletes posess is mental toughness and an overwhelming desire to attain their goals no matter what life throws at them.  Roadblocks only seem to make them stronger.  In the world of racehorses it's called "heart".

O.K.  How does this relate to selling homes?  For many of us suceeding in the current real estate market may be the biggest challenge that we have faced in our careers.  Which one of us will end up on the medal podium?  Will it be the person who has sold the most homes in the past, or who has the most natural talent for the business, or will it be the person with the determination to find a way to be the best that he can be no matter what life and the market throws at him?

Lets take an example from the Olympians - champions all -, get "in the zone" and keep on to victory even if our goggles fill up with water.
