The Journey Through Hallowed Ground is a scenic and educational trip along route 15/20 from Gettysburg, PA to Monticello at Charlottesville Virginia. According to the late historian C. Van Woodward this area has "soaked up more of the blood, sweat, and tears of American history than any other part of the country".
Visit the interactive website and plan your trip. You may either focus on various geographic regions or on the following topics: Civil War, Colonial Period, African American Heritage, Presidential Sites, Historic Buildings, and Prominent Homes.
Charlottesville, Virginia and Albemarle County have many sites that are part of the journey. These include the University of Virginia, Monticello, Ash Lawn Highland, Clifton, Castle Hill, Edgehill, the Southwest Mountains, Proffit Historic District, Grace Church, Free State Community, and the Jefferson High School and Carver Recreation Center.
This fall would be the perfect time to take advantage of a chance to view the fall foliage and experience history at the same time. Charlottesville and Albemarle County have several historic homes for sale. While you are in the area call me for a tour of the Charlottesville homes that are currently on the market. See what it is like to live with history in your backyard.
Perform your own search os all of the Charlottesville homes that are actively listed.

Pam-
Being a History Major from the other Va school, VPI, I agree that our home of Virginia is steeped in history. 90% of all Civil War sites are located within a three hour drive of Washington DC. I have always considered myself blessed to be from this most historical state!
We do have a rich historic tradition and the icing on the cake is the fact that Virginia is beautiful as well.
